Montreal's best kept secret
19 June 2018
Kenauk nature is without a doubt the best kept secret near Montreal. It’s one of the province’s biggest private nature reserve and we sure took advantage of the diversity of terrain. Locals Pat Johnson and Olivier Maurais shared with us their favourite fishing lakes and rivers in the area while hatchery expert Hylton Lewis demystified the art of trout reproduction for us.
We started the trip with a rainbow trout mission. Hylton took us to his favorite lake “Otter Lake” where we really saw how his knowledge of trout behaviour helped him be a better fly fisherman. Local guide Pat welcomed us on his island of lake Papineau where the second part of our adventure started. We got the chance to catch some pike at lake Maholé and finally some Bass to end our trip. Three different species in one trip is more than we can ask for.
One of the things that drives us is to explore fishing destinations is to share it with our community and it starts here in the province of Quebec.
The diversity of terrain challenged us both fishing-wise and physically and the diversity of wildlife so close to the metropolitan area of Montreal really impressed us. Kenauk truly is a local treasure to protect for future generations.
