The village is a gateway to the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve , and is located on the Kungsleden hiking trail . Among the curiosities of Ammarnäs is Potatisbacken (literally potato hill ), a moraine whose southern slope has been used for a long time to grow potatoes because it offers the ideal conditions.
