Exploring the possibilities of the Baie-des-Chaleurs
27 July 2018
We know that the Gaspé Peninsula has a lot to offer and we’ve had the chance to explore it many times. For this trip we wanted to follow Nicolas’s local knowledge of the Bonaventure area as a starting point. We started with a classic fishing spot and Nicolas’s favourite: the Bonaventure River. Our friend François Blanchet joined us for salmon spotting on the river’s crystal-clear water. With our plan to explore the many options that the Baie-des-Chaleurs has to offer we decided to move down the river to look for striped bass.
It’s the type of trip you really come back home with a sense of accomplishment. Not for fishing, but for all of those places we’ve seen.
Having the option to switch to a totally different style of fishing down the river on the same day is just amazing. Frank took advantage of it and we had a lot of fun with all that action. Nic’s friend Gabriel offered us to fish a little bit more for striped bass but in a totally different environment; from his boat in the sea! Just when we thought yesterday had a lot of action Gabriel really showed us another level of action. Every time he saw birds feeding, he would point the boat and rush for the bunch.
To finish our trip we headed out to Rivière Nouvelle to explore a different river of the Baie-des-Chaleurs. Local guide Dean Sexton made us discover a beautiful river and showed us his favourite pools. Hard to believe that we explored that many options in just a few days!
